Caregiving is a challenging but important role. Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter stated that everyone will either be a caregiver, need a caregiver, or currently be a caregiver. In the United States, about 21% of adults are caregivers. It can be emotionally and physically demanding, leading to stress, fatigue, and financial strain. Caregiving may also cause social isolation. However, it can bring a sense of purpose and stronger relationships. Caregivers should recognize their role, involve the person they care for in decisions, focus on their comfort and joy, listen to experts, connect with other caregivers, and take care of themselves. Taking breaks, seeking help, and practicing self-care activities are vital.
